4. A weekend of Ancient History

We spent our weekend in Samarkand and Bukhara. It was amazing!

It was the opportunity to experience how people live outside Tashkent.
We have seen more tourists there than in the capital, but I think I can understand why.
Tashkent is a big and modern city, while Samarkand and Bukhara are different than anything we are used to see in the West.

The historical cities are undeniably gorgeous and tourists are welcomed by lovely people that make an effort to speak english and be pleasant with everyone.

It is hard to explain what is like to walk in those streets. Everything is so well preserved, everyone is smiling at you and the craftwork is extremely well done... It is truly magical!

It feels like a walk in the past... A time when everyone greeted each other in the street, when you could walk home at night without fearing for your safety, when people respected the basic principles of society.

The adventure was amazing. I wish we could have stayed longer in those cities to observe a bit more of the daily life.

Talking about adventure, I must mention our way back from Bukhara to Tashkent. We took a night train that had no air conditioner. It was a 10 hours journey, approximately. Everyone was sweating and it was hard to sleep. We played some games until the temperature cooled down, so it was possible to sleep. The trip was exhausting, but now I can look back and laugh about it.
